Alarm Types
Northeast Security Systems has the capability to monitor many different types of alarms. Here is a list of a few we monitor.
Intrusion Alarm: An intrusion alarm (also know as a burglary alarm) is when a door, motion, detector or glass break sensor is set off while the system is armed.
Fire Alarm: A fire alarm is when a smoke detector, heat detector, duct smoke detector or a hood suppression unit is tripped. The system does not have to be armed for a fire alarm to activate. We call this a 24-hour zone.
Mechanical Alarm: We can monitor your boiler or generator for failure, or any kind of equipment that is temperature sensitive, such as freezers and coolers, for high or low temperature.
Low Temperature Alarm: A low temperature alarm is due to the temperature in the house dropping below the set temperature. This is also a 24-hour zone. If that the temperature in the house has warmed up enough for the alarm to restore, it will not guarantee the heat is working.
Fire Trouble: A fire trouble indicates that there is something wrong with the fire system. This could be anything from a power failure or broken wire to a bad smoke detector. It is important when you receive a fire trouble not to reset your system, but rather acknowledge or silence the trouble.
System Trouble: Like a fire trouble, this signal can also mean one or more different things could be wrong with the system. This alarm could be anything from a power failure or a communication error to a bad sensor.
AC Failure: This indicates that electricity is not reaching the system, either due to a power failure at the premises or to the system itself. We tie the system to it’s own circuit breaker whenever possible.
Low Battery Alarm: A low battery alarm occurs when the system has been running on battery power long enough for the battery to be drained, and could possibly fail if the power is off to the system much longer. When the system power comes back on your battery should recharge. If you are in an area that has frequent power failures your battery life expectancy will shorten faster than the average battery. We recommend they be replaced every 5 years. As part of your annual inspection (included with certain service plans) we will check it and replace the battery if necessary (replacement not cost included in service plans).
Communication Error: This indicates your system had trouble communicating with Northeast Security Systems. It could be a bad or noisy phone line, or perhaps you changed your phone service to VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). This could cause your system to be unable to communicate with Northeast Security Systems. If you do decide to change your phone service you should call Northeast Security Systems while the technician is on site and then test a signal to make sure the system can still communicate with Northeast Security Systems.
