Zones
The type of control panel you have will determine how many zones your system will have. Our FBII XL-2 panel provides 7 zones, perfect for a small installation. The FBI31 has 12 zones ideal for homes that want a few more devices. The Napco P3200 panel comes with 8 zones but is capable of expanding to 32 zones and the Napco 9600 comes with 12 and can expand to 96 zones. What's the big deal with zones? Zones give you a map of your system. If you had only one zone for your system it would be called 'HOUSE'. Now if you had an alarm condition at the basement door you would look at your keypad and see that the HOUSE zone was in trouble. If the basement door was the only protection you had in your system you'd know exactly where the problem was, but if you had the front door, the back door, the dining room sliding door, smoke detectors in each bedroom, low temperature sensors, two motion detectors, well you get the picture, you'd be running around trying to figure out what the problem was. If you had 7 or 12 zones, each device could have its own address and when you went to the keypad you would know exactly where the problem was. Zones are important, especially when it is time for service.
